Therefore, it is not as accurate as the Wilshire 5000 for measuring the entire market capitalization. However, all these ratios look very much the same - and since the Dow Jones is one of the oldest indexes, this ratio goes back to 1869. Data Sources. Today, The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 97.22 points, or 0.4%, to 27,122.30, while the S&P 500 was off 12.68 points, or 0.4%, at 2,994.71. The Nasdaq Composite lost 53.45 points, or 0.7%, to trade at 8,123.27. Oil futures soared, with Brent crude up more than 10% and West Texas Intermediate crude rising 9.7%.
